A technician is the person who provides technical services to consumers. Although the FCC does not define technician as a separate or certified role, technicians may conduct communication assessments, install equipment and software, train consumers, perform maintenance and repairs, travel to consumer locations, and assist with outreach or administrative activities.
The FCC does not require technicians to hold specific certifications. However, certified entities must ensure their staff have the knowledge and skills needed to work with individuals who are deaf-blind, provide specialized equipment and training, and understand telecommunications and advanced communications technologies.
